BioRem-2000 Water Treatment FOG TM Description
Advantages Fats, oil and grease - - also called FOG in the wastewater business - - can have negative impacts on wastewater collection and treatment systems. Most wastewater collection system blockages can be traced to FOG. Blockages in the wastewater collection system are serious, causing sewage spills, manhole overflows, or sewage back-ups in homes and businesses. With the increase in fast food restaurants, many municipalities are having problems with an increase in grease build-up in their lift stations. Fats, oils and grease represent 10% of the organic substances found in wastewater. The term “grease” includes fats, oils, waxes and other similarly related compounds. All kinds of oils found in wastewater will usually float on the water surface and can coat the walls of structures and pipes. The lack of organic decomposition consequently creates maintenance problems. The presence of grease can also interfere with the biological life in the surface wastewater. Grease contents will vary with every system; however, it is best to treat the problem prior to treatment. MSDS's |
